The Reytons 2025 Football Merch
Design Case Study
BREIF: To provide home and away football shirt designs for a UK indie band along with a brand logo for the shirts.
Requirements – Logo Design – Pattern Design – Shirt Templates – Merch Design
Design Overview
Off the back of the success of the shirts designed by Goose in 2024 for their Clifton Park Home Coming Gig, The band once again contacted me looking to design their
2025 football for the 2025 Tramlines Festival in Sheffield, 2025’s theme was “Retro Emporium” which is one of the band songs that feature lyrics about Deloreons, Dark Fruits and Purple Rain.
Designing Shirts & Logo
The 2025 shirts had 2 clear themes, the white home shirt is a tonal print within the white base, the pattern itself is a bespoke illustration of the Deloreon alloy wheel that is then tiled as a step repeat, creating this seamless overlapping shell like pattern. The collars and trims are set in purple which sits the 2 shirts as a collectable pair.
The away shirt, has a purple base which was chosen to reflect the “purple rain” and “dark fruit” lyrics. The shirt features a repeating can design, again inspired by dark fruits and a nod to festival drinking. Both shirts are designed to be oversized to give that retro feel and look. The final shirts gives a real “Dream Team/Harchester United” vibe which adds to the appeal of this particular shirt. The white collars and trims have an embodied detailing to elevate the design and is set in white to compliment the home design.
Additionally to the shirts we created a brand/shirt manufacturer for the shirts, this brand became KOTE.
The KOTE logo is inspired by one of the bands tracks where, streetlights are featured, these streetlights were incorporated into the letter K of the logo to give the brand a unique look that fits with other brands within the sportswear industry.
The Client was provided with a full manufacturing kit that allows them to provide their merch suppliers with quality assets that they can use easily and to help them produce shirts that are true to the concept with minimal issues. The kit contained vector artwork, Pantone swatches, separated design elements including the repeat patterns and concept visuals.
